The Lehigh chapter of Phi Delta Kappa honorary education society will honor its first chapter president, Robert Leight, and host guest speaker Allison Carr-Chellman at its meeting on Saturday.
Leight served as the Lehigh chapter’s first president and was advisor until several years ago. Leight was a professor of education foundations and secondary education for 27 years and has authored and co-authored several education history books and publications. He currently serves as a Commonwealth Speaker for the Pennsylvania Humanities Commission.
The Lehigh chapter of Phi Delta Kappa was chartered in 1964, and was one of only five PDK chapters in Pennsylvania.
Guest speaker Allison Carr-Chellman is associate professor of education at Penn State University and currently leads its Instructional Systems program. Her work outside of academe as well as her research focuses on the impact of innovations such as charter schools in public school systems and online learning on higher education.
The event is scheduled from 10:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. in the Wood Dining Room, in Iacocca Hall on the Mountaintop Campus. The cost of $19 includes a brunch buffet. The event is open to anyone; PDK members and non-members alike. Tickets can be purchased at the door.
