Top 100 Biotechnology Companies Proof of Concept

Samuel Weaver, associate professor finance and law at Lehigh, was mentioned in an article about the next stage for the biotechnology industry: mergers and acquisitions. “In the case of biotechs, economics may be improved by joining complementary resources,” says Weaver. “Traditional cost savings are available, such as sharing administrative staffs and sharing offices, research facilities, and production capabilities…Acquisitions will be heated in 2004 as many companies, based on the strengthening of the economy, will try to complete deals before interest rates increase.”

Giant Letter H is not OK, Bethlehem Zoners Rule

Lehigh University art professor and curator Ricardo Viera was quoted in an article about a 2,463-square-foot structure proposed by Lehigh Valley Hospital-Muhlenberg. Bethlehem's Zoning Hearing Board gave a giant thumbs down Wednesday night to the construction of a 65-foot-tall letter ''H'' that Lehigh Valley Hospital-Muhlenberg proposed building on its campus at Schoenersville Road. The hospital argued the blue 2,463-square-foot letter should be considered a sculpture and therefore should not be subject to the city's 40-square-foot size restriction. Viera described Robert Venturi, the firm's founder, as one of ''America's great architecture theoreticians'' and called the ‘H’ a ''masterful design.'' ''This is something people will always remember,'' Viera said. ''This is a fascinating concept.''
