In a feature article on WebMD.com, the largest consumer medical Web site, Sally White, dean and professor, College of Education, provided a number of tips for achieving workout success at the neighborhood fitness center. "If you haven't exercised for 25 years, and you think you'll just walk into a gym and be successful, you're setting yourself up for failure. Before going to the gym, commit to 20 minutes of walking each day with a group or in a mall. That will increase your cardiovascular capacity, so when you go into the gym you'll feel you can use the treadmill."

Kerry, Home-State Nominee, May Have to Bury History's `Curse'
Monica Najar, assistant professor of history at Lehigh, was quoted in an article that highlights the fact that no Democrat in the last 136 years has won the presidency when nominated in his home state. For Kerry, the proximity couldn't be closer. His Beacon Hill townhouse is less than a mile from the Boston arena where he'll accept the Democratic presidential nomination on Thursday. Only once -- the 1968 Democratic convention in Chicago --did the event's site influence the election, said Najar. Chicago police, spurred by Mayor Richard Daley, clashed with marchers protesting the Vietnam War, creating TV images that shocked Americans.

Lehigh to host Eagles in 2005

The Philadelphia Eagles confirmed Monday they have renewed their contract with Lehigh University to again hold training camp on campus in 2005. “We have an agreement for next year," director of football media services Derek Boyko said. "The contracts are always done on a yearly basis." The length of their training period at Lehigh, which this year has been reduced to only two full weeks, won't be determined until a few months before next year's training camp is to begin.

Developers propose 70-unit condo complex

Mountain Park Condominiums, a complex of 70 units, was proposed Monday for some of Bethlehem's last vestiges of open space with a rural feel. Land in the city near Lehigh University, and burgeoning Lower Saucon Township have received a flood of development proposals in recent months. Planners already have approved Woodfield Crest, a $4 million high-end condominium complex proposed on 9 acres between the city's border with Lower Saucon and Lehigh's Goodman Campus.
