His Holiness the Dalai Lama to arrive early for series of teachings and public lecture at Lehigh

His Holiness the Dalai Lama

The Private Office of His Holiness the Dalai Lama has announced a change for His Holiness’ trip to deliver a series of teachings and a public lecture this month at Lehigh.

Due to changes in his travel itinerary, His Holiness will arrive at Lehigh an afternoon early and begin teaching the afternoon session (2 p.m. to 4 p.m.) of Thursday, July 10, not Friday, July 11, as reported in May.

Before the Dalai Lama arrives, the July 10 morning session (9:30 to 11:30 a.m.) will feature two of the foremost teachers of Tibetan Buddhism:

• Venerable Thubten Chodron, “The Layout of the Stages of the Path Teachings and their Contemplative Value”
• Professor Robert Thurman, “Jey Tsong-kha-pa and his masterwork, The Great Treatise

His Holiness the Dalai Lama will teach from the afternoon of Thursday, July 10 through Tuesday, July 15 on Tsong-kha-pa’s The Great Treatise on the Stages of the Path to Enlightenment: The Lamrim Chenmo .

The teachers scheduled for the morning of July 10 will provide the audience with key background knowledge of The Great Treatise and provide an important foundation for the Dalai Lama’s teachings over the following six days.

The previously scheduled lectures by Professor Jeffrey Hopkins and Doboom Tulku Rinpoche have been cancelled due to His Holiness’ ability to arrive for the afternoon session beginning at 2 p.m.

His Holiness’ presentations at Lehigh represent the most extensive teaching on this classic Tibetan Buddhist text that he has presented in North America.

Joshua Cutler, director of the Tibetan Buddhist Learning Center said, “The teachings on The Great Treatise are a coming together of three important factors. You have the greatest teacher in the modern Tibetan tradition teaching one of the most important treasures of the literature of Tibet, preceded by two eminent teachers of the budding American Buddhist tradition. It is a wonderful opportunity for those attending.”

Single day tickets are still available for the teachings, including July 10. Tickets are $45-$60 per day, with each single-day ticket covering both the morning and afternoon sessions. Seating capacity for the Sunday, July 13 morning session has been filled and tickets are no longer available. Tickets can be ordered from Ticketmaster online at: Ticketmaster.com, by phone at (215) 336-2000, (570) 693-4100 or (610) 233-0006, and in person at any Ticketmaster outlet and at the Stabler Arena box office.

In addition to the teachings, His Holiness will deliver a public lecture, “Generating a Good Heart,” the afternoon of Sunday, July 13. Tickets for the public lecture are sold out.
