Lehigh University honored the recipients of the 2008 Faculty Awards at the annual faculty dinner, held May 3.

Thomas D. Craig
, business and economics, and Jonathan D. Poplawsky
, physics, recipients of the Lehigh University Teaching Assistant Award, which honors excellence demonstrated by graduate student teaching assistants.
Natalie M. Foster
, associate professor of chemistry, who received the Christian R. and Mary F. Lindback Award for Distinguished Teaching, which is presented to a senior faculty member for distinguished teaching performed during the academic year and can be won only once in one’s career.
Michael G. Kolchin
, professor of management and the associate dean for Graduate Studies, recipient of the Hillman Faculty Award, which recognizes excellence in teaching or research work, or for advancing the interests of the University.
, assistant professor of chemistry, and Nelson Tansu
, assistant professor of electrical and computer engineering, who received the Eleanor and Joseph F. Libsch Early Career Research Award, which honors faculty members who are early in their research career and who have demonstrated the potential for high-quality research and scholarship.
Theodore K. Ralphs
, associate professor and co-director of graduate programs in industrial and systems engineering, recipient of the Hillman Award for Graduate Advising, which recognizes excellence in the advising of graduate students.
, Eugene and Sue Mercy Professor of Accounting, who received the Carl R. and Ingeborg Beidleman Research Award, which highlights quality research and refereed scholarship in business and applied economics.
, Joseph T. Stuart Professor of Structural Engineering and director, Advanced Technology for Large Structural Systems (ATLSS) Center, recipient of the Eleanor and Joseph F. Libsch Research Award, which honors excellence in research, scholarship, and/or artistic
Kenneth P. Sinclair
, professor of accounting, who received the Hillman Award for Undergraduate Advising, which recognizes excellence in the advising of undergraduate students.
Stephanie P. Watts
, assistant professor of English, recipient of the Lehigh Junior Award for Distinguished Teaching, which is presented to a member or members of the teaching staff for distinguished teaching performed during the academic year.
Richard N. Weisman
, professor of civil and environmental engineering, who received the Donald B. and Dorothy L. Stabler Award for Excellence in Teaching, which is presented to a member of the faculty who has demonstrated not only mastery of his or her field and superior ability in communicating it to others, but also an exceptional talent for encouraging students.
“It is both a challenge and an honor to select winners of the faculty awards from such a wonderfully talented and devoted group of faculty that we have here at Lehigh University,” said Susan A. Sherer, Kenan Professor of Information Technology Management and chair of the Department of Management, who chaired the Faculty Awards Committee.
New for this year, award review committees were formed to evaluate nominees and recommend winners.
Donald Rockwell, the Paul B. Reinhold Professor of Mechanical Engineering and Mechanics, who chaired the Libsch Awards Committee, echoed Sherer, saying, “The nominations from our colleagues provide evidence of the exceptional caliber of research and scholarship that extends across the diverse disciplines at Lehigh. The international engagement and accomplishments of these faculty are at the highest level, and their activities provide a dynamic and exciting environment for our students.”
