Alison and Norman H. Axelrod 1974
Norman H. Axelrod graduated from Lehigh University in 1974 with a bachelor’s degree in management and marketing. He then earned an M.B.A from New York University in 1976. From 1976 to 1988, he served in various positions at Bloomingdale’s, including that of senior vice president. In 1988, he joined Linens ‘n Things as president and chief executive officer. In 1996, Linens ‘n Things became an independently traded company on the New York Stock Exchange, at which point Axelrod added the title of chairman. In 2006, Axelrod retired when Linens ‘n Things was sold to a private equity firm. Axelrod is currently chairman of the board of General Nutrition Centers, Inc., a specialty retailer of health and wellness products. He is also a director of Jaclyn Inc. and Maidenform Brands.
Since graduation, Axelrod and his wife, Alison, a graduate of New York University, have been active supporters of the university. Most recently, they established the Axelrod Family Fellowship and the Alison and Norman H. Axelrod ’74 Endowment Fund. Both funds support faculty in the College of Business and Economics. The Axelrods are members of both the Tower Society and the Asa Packer Society.
The Axelrods have two children and live in Upper Saddle River, N.J.
