Claire and William Siegele 1941

William A. Siegele graduated from Lehigh in 1941 with a B.S. in chemical engineering from the College of Engineering and Applied Science. While an undergraduate, he was president of the rifle club, a member of the Army ROTC, Scabbard & Blade and Alpha Tau Omega.  Siegele was first employed in 1941 in the start up of the Plum Brook Army Ordinance TNT plant in Sandusky, Ohio. He recalls that among the 200 plus young chemists and engineers hired, the Lehigh graduates were by far best prepared for coordination of construction, solving start-up problems, and training and supervision of operating personnel.  He later served two years in the U.S. Navy on destroyers.

Siegele worked 32 years for the Trojan Powder Company and for Commercial Solvents Co., where he was production manager of industrial dynamite plants. He then joined Legg Mason Warren York brokerage firm in Allentown, becoming V.P. and R.O.P.  He operates his Registered Investment Advisor firm, and is active in Allentown civic activities. He also is chairman of the board of Kirkland Village in Bethlehem. Siegele enjoys golf and is a bare boat sailing captain.

Since leaving Lehigh, Siegele and his wife, Claire, retained close ties to Lehigh as President’s Associates of the Asa Packer Society and through their membership in the Tower Society. Siegele has served as president of his class, an area agent, serves as the Planned Giving class chairman for his class, and is on the National Leadership Committee for Lehigh. He received Lehigh's L-in-Life award and in 1995, was the recipient of the James Ward Packard Award. He has also volunteered for the university's Alumni Fund campaign, and chaired his class's 50th Reunion Fund committee. Mrs. Siegele passed away in 2005. Although she did not graduate from Lehigh, her devotion to and support of the university matched her husband’s. They have three children.
