Alexandra Nicolosi '12

Garden City, NY
Major: Marketing and Finance
Minor: Sociology

"Lehigh was the only school that made me feel at home as soon as I stepped on campus," says Alexandra Nicolosi '12, explaining why she chose the university. Now she makes sure other prospective students have that same experience. As vice president of admissions for the Association of Student Alumni (ASA), a student group that promotes Lehigh pride, Nicolosi coordinates the tour guides who serve as the face of Lehigh.

"Most of my friends refer to their colleges as their schools. I refer to Lehigh as my home. I love Lehigh so much—it's an honor to share this enthusiasm with prospective students," she says. "I love the students and friends I have made, and I love calling Lehigh my home; the only way to express this admiration is to get involved and make a difference around campus."

In addition to her work with the ASA, Nicolosi volunteers through her sorority, Alpha Omicron Pi. Their national philanthropy is juvenile arthritis, and last spring, they held a fundraiser that brought local vendors and popular name brands to campus. Each vendor paid an entrance fee that went to the charity.

"Most of my friends refer to their colleges as their schools. I refer to Lehigh as my home."

Nicolosi also raises money to fight cancer. Last year, she was the Relay for Life chair for her sorority, organizing their teams and making sure the event ran smoothly. To prepare, she attended an American Cancer Society Pennsylvania summit to discuss fundraising ideas with other students from around the state.

A student in the College of Business and Economics, Nicolosi is just as busy in the classroom. She discovered her majors, marketing and finance, after taking Business 001, the college's required introductory course. As part of the class, students worked in teams to develop the best product for Nike.

"My team was lucky enough to win second place because of our creative and innovative product idea, as well as detailed marketing plan and financial estimates," says Nicolosi. "The experience sparked my interest in both marketing and finance: I was able to take a look inside an industry giant and get a taste of what Lehigh is preparing me for. This is a wonderful program that not only forces students to think outside the box, but also helps them discover new passions."

At Lehigh, Nicolosi has had the opportunity to discover new academic disciplines and new extracurricular activities. "I never knew doing philanthropic work would be considered cool, but it is here," she says. "Any school where you can make friends by helping the community is one worth considering."
