Past Awards & Recognition

Communications and Public Affairs has received a number of awards over the years for its work from professional organizations such as CASE (The Council for Advancement and Support of Education), PRSA (Public Relations Society of America) and CUPRAP (The College and University Public Relations Association of Pennsylvania). Recent awards include:

Council for Advancement and Support of Education (CASE)

CASE recognizes innovative and effective programs and projects and honors those institutions that excel in the arena of alumni relations, advancement services, communications and marketing and fund raising. The international professional organization offers two levels of awards programs—The Circle of Excellence Awards, the most prestigious recognition in educational communications, on the international level; and the Accolades and Achievement Awards, the top awards in educational communications, on the regional level. Lehigh is a member of District II, the largest of the districts with a network of 670 institutions in Delaware, the District of Columbia, Maryland, New Jersey, New York, Ontario, Pennsylvania, Puerto Rico, U.S. Virgin Islands, and West Virginia.

2011

2005

  • Public Relations Society of America Philadelphia Chapter Pepper Pot gold award for media relations.
  • Circle of Excellence Silver Award in the category of “Individual Fund-Raising Publications” for the Shine Forever Capital Campaign.
  • Circle of Excellence Silver Award in the category of “Individual Student Recruitment Publications” for the Senior Brochure.
  • District II Accolades Bronze Medal in the category of “Recruitment Publications” for the Senior Brochure.
  • District II Accolades Silver Medal in the category of “Recruitment Posters” for the Lehigh University Fusion of Vision Poster.
  • District II Accolades Honorable Mention for the Lehigh Alumni Bulletin in the category of “Magazines.”  It was noted that the Lehigh Alumni Bulletin was considered a “Top 10 Magazine” by the judges.

2004

  • Circle of Excellence Gold Medal in the category of “Recruitment Packages” for the Accepted Student Matriculation Packet.
  • Circle of Excellence Accolades Silver Medal in the category of “Visual Design in Print, Posters/Prints” for the Angela Davis poster.
  • District II Accolades Silver Medal in the category of “Special Media Programs” for the School Lunch Program Satellite News Feed.
  • District II Conference Honorable Mention in the category of “Periodical Staff Writing” for Transforming Lehigh.

2003

  • Circle of Excellence Silver Medal in the category of “Recruitment TV Commercial Series” for Lehigh’s three 30-minute television spots.

National Research Center for College & University Admissions (NRCCUA)

The Lehigh Web site was awarded an "A+" ranking (up from an "A" ranking in 2005) by the NRCCUA, who evaluated over 3,000 college admission Web sites in 2006.  Lehigh increased scores in the areas of homepage design, admissions page design and navigation; and online access to admissions materials (i.e. online applications).The NRCCUA utilizes a series of pre-determined benchmarks, called the Enrollment Power Index, which measures a university Web site’s ability to take students from prospect to applicant. Lehigh's overall score outperformed the national average for all institutions evaluated, the average score of schools in Pennsylvania, other four-year colleges, a control group of private colleges, schools located in a similar setting and schools with similar enrollment size. 

Center for Digital Education (CDE)

The staffs of Lehigh’s University Relations, Internet Services and Lehigh Technology Services received this award for their combined effort in developing and implementing the overall Lehigh Web strategy which includes external Web design, the internal Web page for the campus community and the campus portal. The Best of the Web Award recognizes and celebrates the innovations and resulting maturity in providing solutions and communicating well with citizens, businesses or educational communities.

  • 2004 – “Best of the Web Award,” the top national web award from CDE.

Admissions Marketing Report Admissions Advertising Awards

The Admissions Marketing Report Admissions Advertising Awards is the largest educational advertising and marketing awards competition in the country. 

  • 2006 – National Silver Award in the category of "Newsletter" for the Lehigh Life! E-Newsletter. 
  • 2006 – National Silver Award in the category of "Brochure" for the Junior Brochure.
  • 2006 – National Merit Award in the category of " Internet/Web Site" for the Undergraduate Admissions Web Site.
  • 2003 – National Merit Award in the category of “Student Viewbook” for the Lehigh Student Viewbook.
  • 2003 – National Merit Award in the category of “Posters” for the Lehigh University Poster for Guidance Counselors.
  • 2003 – National Merit Award in the category of “Television Advertising Series” for the Lehigh University Television Ads.
  • 2003 – National Merit Award in the category of Internet/World Wide Web Sites for Lehigh University Web site, which was recognized as one of the best submissions for recruitment effectiveness.

Public Relations Society of America (PRSA), Philadelphia Chapter

The Pepperpot Awards presented by the PRSA, Philadelphia Chapter, are the region's most coveted awards in the field of public relations. This top honor in public relations recognizes outstanding performance in public relations by practitioners in agencies, industry, government and non-profit organizations. The name of the award, Pepperpots, reflects the pizzazz, aplomb and professionalism inherent in a top-notch public relations campaign. Awards are given out in the categories ranging from Community Relations, Special Events and Observances, Public Service, Issue Management, Development/Fund Raising, Pro-Bono Programs, Marketing Communications, International Public Relations, Crisis Communication, Internal Communications, Investor Relations and more. First place awards are called Pepperpots, second place are called Ladles. The Philadelphia Chapter of the PRSA is a vital resource for communications professionals throughout the Greater Philadelphia region. One of the largest PRSA chapters in the country, it offers its close to 500 members a variety of services including professional development, mentoring, networking and more.
