Paul Brockman, the Joseph R. Perella and Amy M. Perella Professor of Finance, has been appointed the first associate dean for global initiatives in Lehigh University’s College of Business and Economics (CBE).
Working closely with CBE Dean Paul R. Brown, Brockman will be the point person for the college’s global undertakings and with the faculty to establish the strategic direction of the college’s global efforts. As an expert on globally directed education, Brockman will also work closely with Lehigh’s office of international affairs and monitor and assess all university initiatives as they relate to the college’s priorities.
His appointment takes effect immediately.
Brockman, an expert in corporate decision-making, joined the faculty of the CBE in 2009. Since then, he has been extensively involved in advancing the global footprint of the college and the university. Currently, he is the co-chair of the CBE’s global steering committee, and works closely with the office of international affairs as a member of its all-university steering committee.
Brockman’s research focuses on corporate payout policy and market microstructure. He is interested in the institutional context in which business decisions are made, as well as how they are implemented by organizations and interpreted by capital markets. Much of his research has focused on the global dimension of businesses and capital markets.
A passion for global experience
Brockman’s international experience is extensive. Before obtaining a doctorate in finance, he studied international relations and was a foreign exchange student in Sweden and Colombia. In addition to teaching international finance at Lehigh, he has held posts at Hong Kong Polytechnic University and the University of Manitoba. He has presented numerous lectures around the world, including Europe and the Asia-Pacific region, and has been an active participant in the international programs sponsored by the CBE’s Martindale Center for the Study of Private Enterprise.
“I am passionate about the importance of a globally based education, so it’s very exciting to be a part of the college’s commitment to broaden Lehigh’s global education and research,” says Brockman. “I am particularly excited about working with my faculty colleagues on this exceedingly important dimension of business education.”
Brockman’s appointment symbolizes the college’s commitment to providing global experiences to Lehigh students and faculty and provides a tangible catalyst for developing and organizing the college’s resources for global initiatives.
As associate dean for global initiatives, he will be the primary leader of the college’s globally directed education and research efforts and he will act as a champion for all global efforts undertaken in the college.
“Our students and faculty will benefit tremendously from Paul’s leadership,” says Brown, dean of the College of Business and Economics. “I look forward to working together with Paul to move forward the international education and research agendas of the college.”
