Funding Opportunities & Application Deadlines

All students accepted into the Ph.D. program in economics are offered funding packages that include fours academic years of tuition remission and a stipend to cover living expenses. The standard funding package provided by the College of Business and Economics (CBE) requires students to serve as teaching assistants during each semester. However, students in their third and fourth years of study may also serve as research assistants or apply for semester-long fellowships.

In addition to CBE assistantships and fellowships, outstanding applicants to the Ph.D. program will be considered for University fellowships. Recipients of these fellowships receive a stipend during their first year of study, but are not required to provide service to the College. They also receive a budget for research expenses.

Although we do not accept students on a part-time basis, individuals with funding from external sources for full-time study, such as foundation or government fellowships, are welcome to apply to the program. Admission decisions are made on a rolling basis, and students must apply by December 15 to be considered for University fellowships, and by January 15 to be fully considered for CBE assistantships.

While the program does not guarantee funding over the summer, Ph.D. students at all levels may apply for summer research assistantships, and the College supports several summer instructor positions for third and fourth year students. Historically, the percentage of students that remain at Lehigh University over the summer who receive funding is very high.

Please note: Students are admitted to the Lehigh Ph.D. program every other year. As a result, we will not be accepting applications until 2013 for the 2014 academic year.
