Philip R. Peller '60
Andersen Worldwide SC (ret.)
Prior to his retirement in November 1999, Mr. Peller served as the Managing Partner - Practice Protection and Partner Matters for Andersen Worldwide SC, the coordinating entity for the activities of Arthur Andersen and Andersen Consulting. In those roles, he was responsible for overseeing the firm’s professional practice litigation and dealing with a broad range of issues affecting the firm's partners. He was with Andersen for 39 years, initially joining the New York office in 1960. He became a partner in the audit practice in 1970. In his role as an audit partner, Mr. Peller was responsible for a broad range of multinational clients in a variety of industries including natural resources (forest products, mining and petroleum), chemicals and financial services.
Prior to assuming his Andersen Worldwide role in 1996, he was the Managing Director-Quality, Risk Management and Professional Competence for the worldwide audit practice. Over the years, Mr. Peller served on a diverse group of firmwide committees including the Committee on Professional Standards, which dealt with professional, regulatory and ethical matters for which he was the Vice-Chairman.
After his retirement from Andersen, Mr. Peller joined the Board of Directors of two New York Stock Exchange listed companies (Kenneth Cole Products and MSC Industrial Direct) and currently chairs the Audit Committee of each. He is also the treasurer and a member of the Board of Directors of the MS Research Center of New York.
A native of Brooklyn, Mr. Peller graduated magna cum laude from Lehigh University in 1960 and has an MBA from New York University in 1961. He received the Gold Medal in 1963 for the highest score in New York State on the CPA examination. He served as a trustee of Lehigh University for twelve years and now is a Trustee Emeritus. While on Lehigh’s Board, he was a member of several Board committees including the Executive Committee and Chair of the Audit Committee. Lehigh recognized Mr. Peller in 1999 as the recipient of the L-In-Life Award and at his 50th reunion in 2010 with the Alumni Award. He has been married to Linda for 45 years and has three children.
Mr. Peller is an emeritus member of the Dean's Advisory Council.
